| Sid is an experienced economist who recently has been specialising in the measurement and analysis of the sources of economic growth and productivity. He also has significant experience in applying microeconomic analysis to many areas of government policy including industry policies and development strategies, intellectual property, labour market policies, and regulatory and related reforms associated with national competition policy and the development of markets. Sid joined Synergies from the Office of Economic and Statistical Research, and previously the Productivity Commission, where he managed longer term and complex economic research projects. Projects: - Identification of issues in productivity based approaches to economic regulation;
- Critiqued telecommunication international price benchmarking methodologies and comparative cost models;
- Designed and undertook a survey of the compliance costs of rail safety regulation;
- Jointly lead a project on the measurement and analysis of Queensland’s productivity performance including the construction of temporal and spatial State productivity comparisons;
- Constructed capital services indices for various definitions of infrastructure and undertook a major modelling exercise investigating the effects of infrastructure on productivity; and
- Lead a major research project analysing changing patterns in Australia’s R&D effort, factors influencing R&D investment, the effect of R&D on productivity, and the rates of return to R&D; published in Econometric Modelling of R&D and Australia’s Productivity.
