Corn ethanol – policy lessons from Iowa election

This week electors in the Iowa caucus voted in the primary election for United States (US) presidential candidates. As has historically been the case in Iowa, the issue of Government support for the ethanol industry is at the forefront of contentious policy issues in this election. Unsurprisingly, both economic and political factors are at play here, with ‘Big Corn’ – corn being the feedstock which supplies the ethanol industry in the US – strongly supporting an ethanol mandate.
